.... has been the outsourcing of design. However, outsourcing doesn't always mean
off-shoring. In the simplest context, when a product is outsourced, control over
its design and possibly manufacturing is handed off to a separate entity. In the
case of design outsourcing, there are multiple models and a combination of these
models can be used for any given project. A system vendor can contract a third
party to design certain blocks for the design under development. Previous
columns have looked at independent IP providers and analogue IP as important
