The EDA industry is guilty of not taking responsibility for the entire
design flow and needs to provide customers with greater automation in
order to see revenue growth, according to Rajeev Madhavan, chairman and
CEO of Magma Design Automation Inc. ...
"The cost of silicon integration is forcing our customers to pay us
less," Madhavan said. "We as an industry need to step up to the plate
to make sure that that doesn't happen." Madhavan noted that EDA
revenue as a percentage of semiconductor industry revenue has shrunk
from 2.1 percent to 1.7 percent in recent years. But, he said, as a
percentage of profit margin, semiconductor companies are now paying
more for EDA tools than they have in years past.
