era and the complexity of system-on-chip (SoC) designs. In these times, more
companies are compelled to reach out to third-party ASIC design services
firms to get their chips to market on time and on budget.
The complexities of ASIC design, the challenges of manufacturing technology
and the number of reusable intellectual-property (IP) blocks needed in the
SoC era would create a demand for companies that focused on developing basic
IP blocks and design methodologies. Those companies could then couple that
with in-house expertise in foundry, test and packaging.
