Media should be the watchdog of society - not its lap dog - Amir Khan
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan,
smarting over the panning of his film "
Mangal
Pandey
", says the fourth estate should be the watchdog of society - not
its lap dog.
"Because they want more advertisements, they are
destroying what is a very important part of the society - news reporting. It is
wasting important national space that should be used in a more productive
manner," Aamir said, breaking several months of silence in an exclusive
interview to
'Tehelka
newsmagazine',
during which he spoke at length on the state of the Indian media.
I do agree with Amir Khan till an extent. But at the same time, we can not just become too "business-like", you know what I mean. It is as simple as that it takes multiple spices to create great food and too much spice does upset the stomach. So right amounts of spices (In this context, contents) are must. Ironaically, this article is taken from Times of India and I consider Times of India as worst example (You know it being mainstream news paper and all). Recently during Lucknow Riot, I was travelling and could not "dig deep" into any newspaper. And believe it or not, I didn't know about it for couple of days.
What I am waiting for "BBC of India" and not "BBC in India".... Right contents delivered!!
