Death Knoll Sounded for Structured ASIC PDF Print E-mail
Written by SVTechie

With Simplicity cutting cost on Structured ASIC tools and reducing workforce, finally death knoll is sounded. Or is it? If you think otherwise, please comment and I would like to hear from you.

Couple of years ago, I remember vividly now... On that rainy evening, a prominent Venture Capatalist wanted me to develop a tool for structured ASIC ( I was working on a noble approach to synthesize C algorithms to RTL ). Theoritically I liked the idea.. Nothing can beat  quick C -> RTL & easy path from RTL to Chip. But I couldn't see ways to improve performace & generality of such tool and it was finally abandoned. But hope is still alive for C to RTL tool!!

It is raining today and I am reading these articles in EETimes

and wondering.... Is there anything left of structured ASIC?
